There was so much that I had to do by the end of class, but it wasn’t overwhelming. This workshop showed me how blunt criticism and being uncomfortable makes you happy when you revise and see the progress in your work by the end of it. I had a lot to work on- I had way too much of myself in the article, wanted to add a quote to the ending, and incorporate more of a show-not-tell tone with my quotes. I also needed to use “say/said/says” instead of synonyms for those words because in journalism you need to quickly get a point across. It was hard balancing creative writing and essayist writing with less of an academic convention- the project became a whole new kind of writing. I also needed to add people’s majors/years, take out any part in which I say “I”, and get the correct class number that Claire took. There’s a lot for me to do but none of it is daunting, I find writing exciting in any capacity.
