Workshop Experience

My group mates were very lenient with me on this project which I appreciated since my interviewee kept moving the date back. It was so valuable being able to experience a live peer review instead of just commenting on each other’s documents- they gave me a ton of stuff to work with that I’m able to process through in real time. I need a title and photo for my piece, and also another person to talk to about my interviewee to gain another perspective. On top of these, I was told I should tie in my main working quote at the beginning since it seems out of place just sitting there at the top. I want to emphasize that that’s my interviewee’s favorite quote that they’ve leaned on often and expressed in our interview that they wanted it to be used. Another thing I need to work on is my angle- I have a direction, but it’s not sharp enough to fully lead this piece from a draft to something presentable. To get more of an angle I was told to focus in on how they advocate for certain groups- they had mentioned in our interview a lot of specific examples that were overwhelming to choose from, but with the knowledge that those experiences would help me direct this piece towards a sharper angle, I’m going with a story they told me about their friend in college who had pushed them into the role they serve now. Something I myself noticed was how a lot of my quotes needed to have more of a ‘sandwiched’ feel as to act with a transitional role to smooth out the choppiness of the piece. Finally, I want to paraphrase and condense a lot more of these quotes so I can make room for a second interview.
