Early Draft

Anton Lund works as the head access services librarian of the University of New England’s Ketchum Library where students and faculty busy themselves with academics and hurried talk in brief passings to lunch or class. They have a background in English studies, women and gender studies, and LGBTQ+ studies from the University of Colorado, Boulder. They moved here in the summer of 2023. They’re lighthearted with an earthy air that is only extended by a kind presence and willingness to help and cater to everyone’s needs. It’s a huge part of them, anyone who pictures Anton in their mind can say with confidence that they’re smiling.

They’ve worked at public libraries in the past and served in a role oriented towards crisis work and referrals, [but over time they ran out of room for growth]. They’ve worked within libraries and as a social worker in crisis management shelters and deescalating settings, they also volunteer often at a hotline and act as an advocate for unhoused peoples. They’re in all sorts of activist circles, as well- [quote]. Their energy for helping people is high at all times, specifically for people facing domestic violence, unhoused peoples in Portland, supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, and immigration involvement. They’re always ready to express why one should care about the world in all its intricacies within different communities.

Questions I want to ask them:

What communities they’re active within

How the library ties in with their activism

The steps they took to become active in the communities they’re aligned with

How that’s changed throughout the places they’ve lived

How someone at UNE can become active
