Three Big Moments:

  1. joining robotics
  2. getting a job at the library
  3. writing my whole life

Throughout my life there are three things, three “big moments” that have deeply affected my personal growth and my professional growth as an individual. These moments have helped me to get where I am today both in the ways they gave my confidence and in the ways that they’ve acted as a foundation for my future career. The first I’d have to include, which I do whenever I’m able, is how I’ve been writing my whole life. I started writing as a kid which has given me the confidence to help others in their writing struggles and has given me to the grace of an avid storyteller. It’s boosted my creativity and given me the ability of emotional and self-expression through years of journaling. The second “big moment” would have to be when I joined my high school robotics team in my Freshman year. It gave me the ability to collaborate with my team mates very well, which reflects into how I act around new people today. It also gave me technical skills and time management skills since we were often required to meet deadlines. Joining my high school robotics team gave me the opportunity to network with other teams to form alliances and prove my own leadership skills when I’d create professional slideshows and handbooks to promote our team. The third “big moment” for me was getting a job at the library over this past Summer. I’d never had a job before and this proved to not only people around me but also to myself that I was more than capable of working in a professional environment. It’s also exposed me to many different resources for studying and I get to write even more and work on my school work. The library has given me time management skills and I couldn’t be happier that I’ve found a workplace that’s given me an opportunity to network even more as well.

Questions about the Job Description:

  1. I feel that we never covered the mental health to work life balance that comes with working a job, and now that I’m thinking about it we never covered how demanding it would be or what a typical work week would look like.
  2. We never covered pay which I feel is a big thing that candidates would be focusing on, lots of people take that into consideration before moving onto a more “next level” interview.
  3. If I were asking questions to the interviewer, though I wouldn’t say this out loud, vacation days and time off would definitely cross my mind as a Type One Diabetic going into a more demanding job.
