Early Draft

What I want to do:

– Discuss the different mediums of art (focus on the ones that the school offers, maybe go into some of the classes here [printmaking, photography, the painted book, collage]? I think we should focus on a title last considering that’s what I usually do- center a title around the piece, not a piece around the title..)

– Ceramics- (an influential art book like..)

– Photography (an influential art book like..)

– Drawing (an influential artbook like..)

– Printmaking (an influential art book like..)

– Calligraphy/Typography/Letter-making (an influential artbook like..)

– Watercolor (an influential art book like..)

– Discuss different famous artbooks that have influenced art/literature in general (for example..)

– Why art books are important- maybe talk about how ACHS is now the arts and humanities building, too? And how we need more art in UNE’s culture now that we’re expanding not just on that building, but the student life and our interests.. I’m sure that art students are excited for that, too (maybe off topic?)

– Discuss the art major at UNE and our dedicated teachers

– Prof. Rheault

– Prof. Gorham

– Prof. Schmid

– the art history professor

– Prof. Peterson (she’d have a lot to say about this as the art therapy

professor)

– As far as students, I’d love to talk to art students with passionate things to say

– Jhana (art major)

– Claire Facteu-Volk (participated in the art showing last semester)

– Madison Wheeler (president of the art club)

– Lily Marino (art minor)

– Lilly Gaudino (art minor/RA)

– I know that a lot of the art professors don’t have books on reserve, or have been shy about requesting them and have gone through me to ask for them; maybe talk about some art books they’d like to have on reserve (or in general since they probably wouldn’t be for classes) that have been important to them

– Get the library to do an art book event- we always host events

– Art books I think are influential and why? Not to go fully into, but for examples/some context

How I want to execute this:

– Talk to library staff about the process of getting more books/walk people through that process

– Cathleen Miller

– Anton Price

– Talk to art majors about what art books they’d like to see on campus/what artists they look up to

– Have a TON of facts ready to present..

– ask Anton/Prof. Miler

– How many art books we have in the library right now vs other colleges that claim they’re liberal arts colleges

– When the last art book was added to the library

Title names?:

– Focus on how they’re not just for the coffee table.. There could be a pun somewhere in that

General notes:

– Let’s start to section out the first “what I want to do” so that we can start writing..

– Keep in mind not to lean too hard into creative writing

– “Paint a picture; give us an anecdotal lead”

– “Let the audience understand what the initial tone is”
